HAND-DRAWN ART, INSPIRED BY WILD PLACES, FOR WILD PLACES.
Making art for wild places. I've always liked the sound of that.
Little Orange Tent is my art shop's moniker, and a portion of every piece of art I sell will always be donated to ongoing Northwest and oceanic conservation efforts—put to good use for outdoor education, wilderness clean-ups, and related wildlife and public lands advocacy.
All of my art is hand-drawn/painted, and inspired by my favorite wild places, my favorite books about wild places, and by the amazing species that inhabit this big and beautiful planet—from the forests to the grasslands to the mountains to the oceans. I do most of my work "en plein air"—painting and sketching on the trails, in the mountains, and next to alpine lakes.
I've long been smitten with print-making, sketchbooks, and the vast playground between ink, paint, and blank pages. My mother will tell you I've always been an artist, and while I've been filling various notebooks with various sketches for as long as I can remember, I'm started selling my work in 2017, before opening a brick and mortar local artists collective in 2021. That I can (and do!) pay some of my monthly living expenses with income made from my art continues to be a surreal and long-term dream come true.
Every day there is something new to learn about making art and building a small business, which is one of myriad reasons why I love it, and I'm looking forward to this ongoing adventure, and to perpetually using my artistic voice to advocate for shared and much beloved wild places across our fantastic planet.

WHY LITTLE ORANGE TENT?
Little Orange Tent is a heartfelt homage to the first tent I ever owned, and to the fact that my husband and I lived in a little orange tent (the one featured in my Etsy shop's header image, in fact!) for multiple summers after we first met. It was inside that little orange tent in 2012, in a field next to a herd of bedded-down elk, that we dreamed up our trail-centric nonprofit [Endless Trails], and I dreamed of making a life spent writing and making art a full-time reality.
It's been all adventures and sketchbooks and forward momentum since then, and I'm beyond psyched to be adding original art, + prints, stickers, magnets, cards, and so much more made from my hand-drawn, hand-painted originals to my Etsy shop [BigCartel site coming soon!] on a regular basis.
